Blog from LAGERBOX in Chemnitz
Many still know it under its former name Karl-Marx-Stadt: the city of Chemnitz with its 250,000 inhabitants. It carried the name of the world-famous 19th century philosopher until 1990. Since then, the large city in Saxony has developed and is now a wonderful city in Eastern Germany.
But why is it wonderful, what are good reasons for moving there, and what are its most famous sights?
Student town
- Chemnitz is a student town. Its Technical University maintains good relations to a total of 130 partner institutions on all continents and gives a lot of valuable impulses to the city and the surrounding regions.
Sights
- The three largest sights in Chemnitz are the castle Wasserschloss Klaffenbach, Saxony’s Industrial Museum, and the Karl Marx Monument. If you like nature, the Botanical Garden and the Chemnitz Zoo are also highly recommended.
Sports and music
- Chemnitz is home to the long-standing Chemnitzer FC, or CFC for short. It had it’s time but now fell back to the regional league. However, this gives every visit to its stadium a back-to-the-roots feeling that shouldn’t be missed. Music fans know that the concerts of the local rock band Kraftklub are always worth a visit.
